This is where we have seen our business owner advisory boards make a real difference. Four Common Misconceptions About Peer Advisory Boards

How do the advisory boards work?

A business owner can often get overwhelmed, like being stuck in quicksand. A consultant or a financial advisor might advise on making or changing certain decisions. But that’s often where it ends. A TAB Business Owner Advisory board jumps in the quicksand with you.

Imagine what a difference it could make to you and your business if there was somewhere you could go to talk openly about the challenges and opportunities that you face in running your business.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I benefit from the opinions of those on the board?

You will meet with around half a dozen business owners each month. It’s the same people each month so they really get to understand you and your business. They don’t have any vested interest so will give you business advice and share their own experience to help run your business even better. Every month you will bring an issue or opportunity to your board to work through with the other business owners.

How do I know if I qualify to join a TAB Board?

Our typical members are business owners and leaders of companies who have been leading businesses for 4 or more years, with 4 or more full time employees. When you apply to become a TAB Member you will be matched to a board that best suits your level of business experience so you join the most effective advisory board for you.

How will people from other industries be able to understand my unique business and help me with challenges and opportunities?

All businesses are unique in some way or another. We all face the same major issues with human resources, external factors like changing economy and government regulations, sales, marketing, day to day operations, handling a management team, and initiating change in our organisations. The advantage of working with fellow business owners and leaders from diverse backgrounds is the ability to hear new perspectives and different ways to handle the same situation from real world experience, which you may not have previously considered. You will also get the opportunity to help others, by offering your perspective and advice.

Due to the current COVID-19 outbreak, can I still join an advisory board?

Yes! TAB is still doing what TAB does best and is fully operational despite social distancing measures. We are continuing to support businesses through online virtual meetings. Find out more about TAB Virtual Boards

Who leads each meeting?

Your TAB board meetings will be facilitated by your local TAB Business Coach. They have a wide array of professional expertise and are also a business owner. They have gone through training to help them lead and facilitate our business owner advisory boards. They also help businesses, just like yours, achieve personal and business success using TAB’s suite of strategic business planning tools.

Can a competitor join my board?

Put simply, no – a competitor cannot join your board. We have a comprehensive assessment and placement process which makes sure you do not join a group where potential competitors are already working. Part of our screening process is to allow existing members to deny new members from joining their group where they feel a conflict of interest exists. This will guarantee no competitors join a group.

How many members are in each group?

TAB’s Business Owner Advisory Boards are very intimate in size with around half a dozen members on each board. This ensures that every board member has their current issue or opportunity addressed and can receive advice from each board member.

Who determines what is discussed in each TAB meeting?

Your TAB Business Coach helps each board member prepare their issue or opportunity for each board meeting. This helps make sure the discussions are always high level.

What is expected of me as a member of a TAB Board?

When creating an advisory board, we create an incredibly supportive, caring, yet challenging community of like-minded individuals. To continuously strengthen this, all members are expected to:
•Maintain confidentiality
•Attend and participate at monthly meetings
•Share their wisdom and experience to other members
•Connect with your TAB Business Coach for a monthly one-to-one call between meetings

Can I attend a board before deciding to be a TAB member?

Some of our TAB facilitators/coaches offer the opportunity to attend a TAB Taster Board Meeting. This is just like a normal advisory board meeting but a little shorter. It still gives you a taste of how TAB works and the value that the board can provide for you and your business. To find out if your local coach is running any taster board meetings, find and contact them.

How long do I have to be a member of the board for?

Our members tend to stay on their boards for years (current average membership tenure is 4.7 years!). TAB is confident that you will receive value from your membership. There are no binding contracts and you will be billed your membership subscription on a monthly basis. If at any time you need to leave the board, we ask that you provide 30-days written notice.

How much does TAB membership cost?

The specifics of your membership can be discussed with your local business coach – find your local coach or get in touch through our contact page.
